WATCH: Cristiano Ronaldo wins Globe Soccer Awards player of the year
Cristiano Ronaldo was named the best player of the year while Zinedine Zidane was voted the best coach of the year as Real Madrid dominated the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Thursday.
The club were also named the best team of the year as they beat Manchester United and Monaco to the award.
Ronaldo, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, helped Madrid win a Primera Liga and Uefa Champions League double. He then capped off the year with the Spanish giants clinching the Fifa Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi.
The Portuguese forward was named winner ahead of Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar. He was unable to attend the gala, but sent his message of thanks over a live video link.
The event, organised by the Dubai Sports Council, saw Madrid honoured after their most successful season ever as they won five trophies in total.
In other awards on the night, Manchester City's chief executive Ferran Soriano received the Sport Business Award, while both Francesco Totti and Carlos Puyol received Player Career awards for their services to football.
Saudi Arabia were named Best Arab National Team of 2017 for qualifying for next summer's World Cup finals in Russia, while Egypt coach Hector Cuper won the coaching equivalent.
Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone was given the Master Coach Special Award for his achievements at Atletico Madrid in winning the Spanish title with them in 2014 and also taking them to two Uefa Champions League finals. He confirmed on Thursday he planned to remain with the Primera Liga club next season.
