Tammy Abraham on target for Golden Boot, Anthony Martial turns provider: Premier League team of the week
Who makes it into this week's best XI?
Goalkeeper: Ben Foster (Watford) – Gerard Deulofeu brought the magic to Watford’s first win but Foster underpinned it with his dependability in a clean sheet at Norwich. Reuters
Right-back: Ricardo Pereira (Leicester City) – A marauding force in the victory over Arsenal as he took advantage of their wing-back system to power forward. AFP
Centre-back: Mason Holgate (Everton) – Brought some of the solidity at the back as Everton ended a wretched run on the road with a vital victory at Southampton. Reuters
Centre-back: Ciaran Clark (Newcastle United) – Newcastle’s defenders are scoring the goals the forwards should and Clark struck for the second successive week to beat Bournemouth. Reuters
Left-back: Andrew Robertson (Liverpool) – A magnificent cross for Mohamed Salah to head Liverpool’s second goal and an all-action display against Manchester City. AFP
Right midfield: Adama Traore (Wolves) – One of the most exciting players to watch was at his exhilarating best as Wolves beat Aston Villa in a Midlands derby. AFP
Centre midfield: Fabinho (Liverpool) – Scored a belated first goal of 2019 and produced a barnstorming display as the European champions beat the English champions. Reuters
Centre midfield: James Maddison (Leicester City) – Not just for the goal that defeated Arsenal, either. Maddison was the classiest player on the pitch on Saturday. Reuters
Left midfield: Dwight McNeil (Burnley) – Tormented West Ham with some terrific crosses. Set up Burnley’s second goal in a hugely impressive 3-0 win. AFP
Centre forward: Tammy Abraham (Chelsea) – Maintained his fine form for the season and kept up his push for the Golden Boot with another goal to defeat Crystal Palace. AFP
Centre forward: Anthony Martial (Manchester United) – Others got the goals, but Martial helped set two up as United impressed with their attacking efforts in beating Brighton. AFP
Tammy Abraham took his Premier League goals tally to double figures with a fine strike in Chelsea's
2-0 win over Crystal Palace.
The England striker averages a goal every 90 minutes in the league and now sits one behind
Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy on 11 this term.
There were other fine performances over the weekend, most notably from Anthony Martial. The Manchester United forward wasn't on target in the
3-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion but assisted on two of the goals for teammates.
Liverpool opened up a nine-point lead over second-placed Manchester City with a
3-1 win at Anfield. No surprise then to see two of Jurgen Klopp's charges in the team of thew week.
