Sadio Mane and Senegal ready for Afcon final as Jurgen Klopp admits no plan set yet for Liverpool return
Senegal bid to win the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time when they face Algeria in Cairo
Sadio Mane looked in relaxed spirits on Thursday night as he and his teammates look to give Senegal their first Africa Cup of Nations title on Friday in Cairo.
The Liverpool forward and the rest of the Senegal squad trained for the final time ahead of their final showdown at the Cairo International Stadium against Algeria.
Senegal's best previous performance at the tournament was in 2002 when they lost on penalties to Cameroon in the final.
Mane is Senegal's top scorer with three goals but has also missed two penalties as well and has stood down from spot-kick duty.
His success with his country in Egypt may mean that he misses the start of Liverpool's season.
The Community Shield is on August 4 against Manchester City with the opening Premier League game against Norwich City on August 9 at Anfield.
Mohamed Salah, whose Egypt side were knocked out in the second round on July 6, was given three weeks off by the club and will not join up with his teammates until the end of the month at a training camp in France.
If Mane is given the same time then he would not join the Liverpool squad until August 10.
Klopp had said on Liverpool's website on the matter: “With Sadio, we have to see about him after the final – how he is feeling and stuff like that,” he said.
“It will be really difficult. 16 days before we play City, his season is finished. We will have to make a decision, but we haven’t made it yet.”
