Raheem Sterling scores hat-trick as Manchester City thrash West Ham - in pictures
Premier League champions triumph 5-0 at the London Stadium, with Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero also on target
Manchester City began where they left off in the Premier League on Saturday as they won their opening game of the 2019/20 season 5-0 at West Ham United.
Raheem Sterling's hat-trick and goals from Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero gave Pep Guardiola's men the points at the London Stadium.
It was a 15th consecutive Premier League win, a run that stretches back to February 3, as the champions began their bid to win a hat-trick of English top flight titles for only the sixth time in history.
Jesus had opened the scoring in the first half as he tapped home Kyle Walker's centre.
Sterling then took centre stage after the interval as he netted from close range after good work from Kevin De Bruyne, and then chipped home a third 15 minutes from time.
The English forward was involved in a controversial moment as a second goal for Jesus was ruled out after Sterling was adjudged, by VAR, to be fractionally offside.
Guardiola was able to leave Sergio Aguero, who came on for Jesus in the second half, and Bernardo Silva on the bench.
Aguero added a fourth, scoring a penalty at the second attempt. He had missed the first effort but West Ham keeper Lukasz Fabianski was adjudged to have moved off the line too early.
Sterling then completed his hat-trick in stoppage time to complete the rout.
Pep Guardiola told the BBC of Sterling: "When people who play outside in the wings can score goals, your team will score lots - it's good, all the pre-season games he scored goals.
But in the first half, he can do better."
City continue their league campaign next Saturday at home to Tottenham Hotspur, while West Ham travel to Brighton and Hove Albion.
