PSG tell Neymar he can leave, but French club yet to receive any offers

Sporting director Leonardo says club have held only "superficial" talks with Neymar's former club Barcelona

Paris Saint-Germain have told star forward Neymar he can leave the French champions if they receive a suitable offer.

Sporting director Leonardo told a French newspaper on Monday there have been no offers for the controversial Brazil forward, though the club have held "superficial" talks with Neymar's former club Barcelona.

PSG made Neymar the most costliest player of all time when they paid Barca a world record €222 million (Dh913m) fee to lure him to the French capital in the summer of 2017.

"Neymar can leave PSG if there is an offer that suits everyone. But to date, we do not know if anyone wants to buy him or at what price. All this is not done in a day, that's for sure," Leonardo told Le Parisien.

La Liga president says he would prefer Neymar 'not to come' to Spain

"It's clear to everyone [that he wants to leave], but in football, you say one thing today and tomorrow another ... It's amazing but it's like that. We talked with his entourage too. Everyone knows everything.

"The position is clear for all participants. But one thing is concrete today: he still has three years of contract with us and since we have not received an offer, we cannot discuss anything."

Both Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu and his vice-president Jordi Cardoner have made public statements over the past two weeks that Neymar wants to return to the Spanish champions.

"We have not received any offers," Leonardo added. "But we have had, it's true, very superficial contacts [with Barcelona].

"They said they want to buy him but that we are not selling. It was [Bartomeu] who said that. But we have not seen that Barcelona are truly in a position to buy him.

"A move of this magnitude is not just a question of emotions. It is a financial question.

"PSG want to count on players who want to be here and build something big. We do not need players who are doing a favour to the club by being here."

With Barcelona also courting Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann, it remains doubtful the Catalan club could afford to buy the Frenchman and Neymar in the same transfer window.

Neymar faces disciplinary action after he failed to report for training with PSG on Monday.

He attended the Copa America final in his homeland with his son, cheering from the stands as Brazil beat Peru 3-1 to win the title.

He missed the tournament due to an ankle injury sustained in a friendly against Qatar last month.

The former Santos forward is banned for three matches at the start of the new Ligue 1 season after lashing out at a fan at the end of PSG's shock French Cup final defeat to Rennes in April.

He will also miss his next three European matches after insulting match officials at the end of his side's Uefa Champions League defeat to Manchester United in March.
