Goalkeeper: Jack Butland (Stoke City) – Kept his excellent campaign going with some outstanding saves to earn Stoke a point in a stalemate at Newcastle United.

Right-back: Joel Ward (Crystal Palace) – Excelled in both full-back positions as Palace were the better side in their 0-0 draw with Manchester United.

Centre-back: Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal) – Has scored in consecutive league games for the first time in his Arsenal career. Defended well at Swansea City, too.

Centre-back: Mamadou Sakho (Liverpool) – A rock at the back as Chelsea, and Diego Costa, were frustrated by the Frenchman, who has flourished under Jurgen Klopp.

Left-back: Ryan Bertrand (Southampton) – The former Chelsea man set up Steven Davis’ goal against Bournemouth with a delightful cross to cap a fine individual display.

Right midfield: Gerard Deulofeu (Everton) – Ran riot against Sunderland on Sunday, scoring one goal and making two more, including a wonderful pass to Romelu Lukaku.

Centre midfield: Mesut Ozil (Arsenal) – Took his league-leading tally to nine assists this season with two more in Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Swansea on Saturday.

Centre midfield: Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool) – Shook of a spell of poor form with two goals to secure Klopp’s first league win and to increase Jose Mourinho’s problems.

Left midfield: Riyad Mahrez (Leicester) – Two goals in the comeback victory at West Bromwich Albion mean the Algerian winger has already struck seven times this season.

Centre forward: Odion Ighalo (Watford) – The Nigerian is involved in virtually every Watford goal these days and scored both in the 2-0 win over West Ham United.

Centre forward: Arouna Kone (Everton) – Secured a new contract with his first Everton hat-trick as Sunderland were put to the sword in a 6-2 thrashing at Goodison Park.
