Where there is Neymar, there is normally a bundle of drama and emotion - and the Champions League final was no exception.
But instead of raucous after-match partying and tears of joy, it was nothing but sorrow for the Brazilian star as his Paris Saint-Germain side were edged out 1-0 by a mean Bayern Munich machine.
His night began with a swagger as he arrived at the empty Estadio da Luz in Lisbon, with a huge speaker in his hand ready for the post-victory celebrations which never came. Instead, the only dancing came after stepping off the team bus.

While teammate Kylian Mbappe, in his first Champions League final, managed to hold his emotions together at the final whistle, Neymar let it all out, creating one of the defining images of the night as he was comforted by Bayern's David Alaba.
"Losing is part of the sport, we try everything, we fight until the end. Thank you for the support and affection of each one of you and CONGRATULATIONS to BAYERN," he tweeted afterwards.
Perder faz parte do esporte, tentamos de tudo, lutamos até o final. Obrigado pelo apoio e carinho de cada um de vocês 🙏🏽 e PARABÉNS ao BAYER 👏🏽

On Instagram meanwhile, he accompanied a disconsolate image with a religious reference: "I fought the good fight, I finished the race, I kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4: 7."
