Mohamed Salah's heartwarming invitation and message to Liverpool fan who went viral

Football, as it often does, has been courting the wrong type of headlines in recent weeks - especially in England.

There was a banana throwing incident in a match between Arsenal and Tottenham and then the latter club's Dele Alli was hit on the head by a plastic bottle in a match between the same teams on Wednesday evening.

But if you want a heart-warming tale or two you need look no further than Liverpool's Mohamed Salah.

Already well known for his acts of charity after a challenging upbringing in Egypt, Salah was involved in a special invitation for Liverpool fan Mike Kearney, who recently shot to global fame.

Kearney, who is partially sighted, was caught on camera in the crowd during Liverpool's Champions League victory over Napoli in which Salah scored the winning goal. He was seen celebrating with his cousin, Stephen, who was describing to him what had happened.

The footage quickly spread around the world as football fans shared a moment encapsulating the term "the beautiful game".

Liverpool welcomed Kearney and his cousin to their Melwood training ground to meet Salah, manager Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool squad and tweeted: "To Michael, your support is an inspiration. Mo Salah."

Salah then retweeted the video of Kearney's visit from his account.

Salah can be seen greeting Kearney in the training complex and asks how long he has been supporting the club before handing over a Liverpool shirt with "Salah" on the back for him to keep.

Kearney later thanked "Egyptian King" Salah and Liverpool for "an amazing day".

Salah had shown his humble side just a couple of weeks ago when he was unsurprisingly named man-of-the-match for his hat-trick against Bournemouth, which helped place Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.

But when receiving his award after the match, he instead gave it to teammate James Milner, who was playing in his 500th Premier League match.

"No, I will not take it, he's made 500 games," Salah, standing with Milner, said in the after match presentation with Sky Sports.
