Manchester United 9-0 Ipswich Town: the biggest wins in Premier League history - in pictures

Following Manchester City's 8-0 win over Watford on Saturday, we delve back into the archives to look at the biggest winning margins in the league's history

Manchester City joined an elite band of Premier League clubs to score eight goals in a single match on Saturday, beating a hapless Watford 8-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

Bernardo Silva was on the score sheet three times, with the other five goals shared between David Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Nicolas Otamendi and Kevin de Bruyne.

Impressive as City were, their victory over Watford is not the biggest winning margin in Premier League history.

On March 4, 1995 Manchester United thumped Ipswich Town 9-0, with Andy Cole scoring five of United's goals at Old Trafford.

Wigan Athletic are the only other team to concede nine goals in a Premier League match, with Jermain Defoe's quintet strikes helping Spurs to a 9-1 win at White Hart Lane in November 2009.

Manchester City feature twice in the big wins hall of fame, although in May 2008, it was they who were on the receiving end of a mauling.
