Manchester City are Premier League champions for the third time in seven years after Manchester United's shock loss at home to West Bromwich Albion on Sunday meant that Pep Guardiola's side cannot be caught at the top of the table.

City had won 3-1 at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday to inch closer to the title and United needed to avoid defeat at Old Trafford against bottom-placed West Brom to keep the title race alive.

But United were beaten thanks to a second half goal from Jay Rodriguez to ensure that the City celebrations could begin as they are 16 points clear with only five games of the season remaining.

Guardiola's men are next in action next Sunday when they entertain Swansea City.

It is Guardiola's first league title in English football and comes in his second season with City. It is the 24th trophy of a managerial career for the Spaniard that has also seen him manage Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
