Manchester City are to wear a special kit to mark the start of their 125th anniversary season in Sunday's Community Shield.

Pep Guardiola's side will play in the one-off design at Wembley Stadium against Liverpool.

The kit, inspired by the history of the Premier League champions, with design elements voted for by supporters, is primarily blue with a white trim. The crest features gold lettering denoting the club’s 125 years.

The shirt is a classic design, free of shirt sponsorship. This was made possible for the special anniversary, by the support of Etihad Airways, the club’s principal partner.

A limited-edition run of 1,894 individually numbered authentic shirts will be produced of the kit.

City's chief operating officer Omar Berrada said: “Manchester City is delighted that Etihad Airways will play an important role in our 125th anniversary season and has supported the development of our commemorative kit.

"This coming season will provide us with the opportunity to mark key moments in the life of Manchester City, and celebrate the fantastic journey that our Club and our fans have been on together.”

Robin Kamark, chief commercial officer at Etihad Aviation Group, added: "Given our 10-year relationship with Manchester City, it is fitting that we can support this important milestone in such a meaningful way, through their commemorative anniversary kit.

We look forward to seeing the team wear it on Sunday for the Community Shield.”
