Louis van Gaal fears information overload at Manchester United

Van Gaal has tinkered with the team’s formation, switching from a 3-4-1-2 system to a 4-3-1-2, and has also made several alterations to the club’s training ground since starting work in July.

LONDON // Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has admitted that his players may be struggling to process the information he has fed them in the opening two months of his tenure.

Van Gaal has tinkered with the team’s formation, switching from a 3-4-1-2 system to a 4-3-1-2, and has also made several alterations to the club’s training ground since starting work in July.

United have won only one of their first five Premier League games and having seen his side crash to a 5-3 defeat at Leicester City last weekend, Van Gaal believes they are still adapting to his methods.

“We give [the players] a lot of information and you have to work out that information,” said the Dutchman, ahead of his side’s home game against West Ham United on Saturday.

“There shall be a moment in the season that this information is not too much. At this moment, maybe it is too much for the players.

“It’s very difficult because we are starting with a new team and a new relationship between players, so that’s why it needs time.”
