Italy international reunited with former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge
Jorginho 'absolutely ecstatic' after completing move to Chelsea on five-year deal
Italy midfielder Jorginho has completed his move from Serie A club Napoli to Chelsea on a five-year deal, the Premier League club confirmed on Saturday.
Jorginho, who will wear the No 5 shirt, has been swiftly reunited with manager Maurizio Sarri, who also finalised his switch to Chelsea from Napoli on the same day.
"I am absolutely ecstatic to be here at Chelsea," Jorginho, 26, told the club's website. "It is not easy to become part of such a big team so I am very, very happy. I am excited to play in such an intense league, for a team that gives everything to play and win."
Jorginho, commonly deployed as a deep-lying playmaker, was central to Sarri's plans at Napoli where during his four-and-a-half years at the club he won the Coppa Italia in 2014 and claimed two runner-up finishes in Serie A.
"We are delighted Jorginho has chosen to join Chelsea," club director Marina Granovskaia said. "He was one of the most coveted midfielders in Europe and will become an important member of the playing squad.
"He has demonstrated his quality working under Maurizio Sarri and we are convinced his signing will help bring further success to Stamford Bridge."
Jorginho, who was born in Brazil but moved to Italy as a child, began his career at Verona, breaking into the first team in 2010, before moving to Napoli. He has been capped eight times by Italy since making his debut in 2016.
