Inter Milan are interested in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen, revealed the Italian club's chief executive, although an offer has not yet been made for the Danish playmaker.
Eriksen, 27, has entered the final six months of his contract at Tottenham, which means he is now free to begin talks with clubs outside of England.
Inter Milan, who stayed level with Juventus at the top of Serie A on Monday with a 3-1 win at Napoli, have been mentioned as a potential destination for Eriksen, who has also been linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid.
"Often important players are offered to us. Eriksen is an excellent player whose contract expires in June and we have had no contact with Tottenham," Inter chief executive Giuseppe Marotta told Sky Italia.
"I still believe that there are many teams interested in him and we have not started any kind of negotiations.
"I simply say that he is an important and interesting player. We are looking for a midfielder and a winger. We are having several contacts with companies and agents to try to improve this position.
"We have not yet reached a conclusion because we want to do everything very calmly to keep our bar high."
Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho appears resigned to losing Eriksen, despite having previously stated his desire for the midfielder to sign a new contract, and the Portuguese admitted this week that he could leave this month.
"I don't know and I am being honest," Mourinho said. "You know the situation, in this moment he can agree with any club for the end of the season. That is one option.
"Another option is a club and himself want to do a deal in January, but in that situation, our club is in control. We have control of the situation. Another possibility is he stays."
Eriksen has been at Tottenham since 2013 having signed from Ajax in an £11 million (Dh53.15m) deal. He mas made 223 Premier League appearances, scoring 51 goals.
