Tottenham have been the centre of attention in recent weeks and not just for the airing of their Amazon Prime documentary.

Jose Mourinho continues to be box office, and he now has a co-star in Gareth Bale.

Gareth Bale's emotional rollercoaster

Tottenham were spurred on by the presence of new signing Gareth Bale at the weekend as they beat Newcastle United in the Premier League with a single strike from Lucas Moura.

The TV cameras, of course, panned straight to Bale, who was sitting the match out in the stands due to injury.

Rather than fist pumping or jumping up and down as the net bulged, we found a performance worthy of Hollywood, with first a look of frightful horror and then a polite clap as if sat on centre court at Wimbledon or praising the Queen for the quality of her tea.

It's good to see him smiling again.

The defender went running off down the tunnel during the match, but hadn't been substituted.

Then manager Jose Mourinho went running down the tunnel after him.

Tottenham again, and Jose Mourinho is known for leaving no stone unturned - so it proved on Tottenham's Europa League adventure in Skopje, Macedonia.

Mourinho said his goalkeepers noticed before the game that the goalposts were small at both ends, so he went to size them up himself.

"I thought I had grown but then I realised the goal was 5 centimetres lower," the master tactician mused.

Messi: Nothing surprises me

Just when you thought it was back to business for Lionel Messi and Barcelona, the club went and sold the Argentine's close pal Luis Suarez.

It's fair to say Messi wasn't too chuffed, and vented his feelings to the world on Instagram, saying Suarez was "kicked out", and that the truth "is that nothing surprises me at this point".

This season looks like it will be a bumpy one for the Spanish giants and the club legend.
