Fulham have loaned Costa Rican forward Bryan Ruiz to Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven until the end of the season, the Premier League club announced on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old joined Fulham from Dutch side FC Twente in 2011 for a fee reportedly in excess of £10 million ($16.4 million, 12.1 million euros), but he has played only twice since Rene Meulensteen became coach in December.
“The club can confirm that Bryan Ruiz has joined Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven on a loan deal until the end of the season,” read a statement from Fulham.
“Having made 14 appearances for the Whites in the current campaign, Ruiz will now link up with Phillip Cocu’s side as they aim to improve on their current standing of seventh in the Eredivisie.”
Ruiz, who will captain Costa Rica at this year’s World Cup, first moved to Europe in 2006 when he joined Belgian club Ghent. He moved to Twente three years later.
Meanwhile, Meulensteen has revealed that Fulham have failed with an approach for West Ham United midfielder Ravel Morrison.
Speaking after his side’s 3-0 win over Norwich City in an FA Cup third-round replay on Tuesday, the Dutchman said: “We have put in a bid for Ravel Morrison that has been knocked back.
“It’s back to (Fulham chief executive) Alistair Mackintosh and we’ll see what happens.”
Meulensteen worked with Morrison during his previous role as a coach at Manchester United and he expressed confidence that the 20 year old wanted to move to Craven Cottage.
“Yes, I think he does want to come,” Meulensteen said. “He would add pace, power, unpredictability, and a real attacking threat.”
Fulham are currently in 16th place in the Premier League table, a point above the relegation zone.
