It will have been heartening for Leicester City supporters to see Riyad Mahrez put his head down and perform as well as he does week in and week out for the 2015/16 Premier League champions during their 1-0 FA Cup fifth-round win over Sheffield United last weekend.
Mahrez returned to Leicester's starting XI on Friday - for the first time since taking a break following the collapse of his proposed transfer to the league leaders - and helped his side to victory after receiving warm applause from the home fans when his name was announced before the tie. He also received a standing ovation when he was substituted late on.
The winger was joined by six fellow Premier League stars in Richard Jolly's team of the weekend, two each belonging to Manchester United, Chelsea and Southampton.
It also augurs well for English football that four of the 11 players featured in Jolly's team are from the lower divisions.
