The UAE will compete later this month in the Gulf Cup of Nations, the Football Association has confirmed.

The FA said on Wednesday that it had accepted an invitation from the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation, the tournament’s governing body, to compete in the event, which takes place in Doha from November 24 to December 6. Bahrain and Saudi Arabia announced also that they would be taking part.

The decision by the three countries to participate means the tournament will again feature eight teams. Qatar, Iraq, Oman, Yemen and Kuwait also feature. Given Wednesday’s developments, the draw for the tournament, which was to originally comprise five teams, will need to be remade.

The UAE were runners-up at the most recent Gulf Cup, when they were defeated on penalties by Oman in Kuwait early last year. They have twice won the title, in 2007 and 2013.
