Manchester City have confirmed the signing of France full-back Benjamin Mendy from Monaco on a five-year deal.

Mendy, 23, was presented in Los Angeles where City are on pre-season tour. While the transfer fee was not disclosed by City, it has widely been reported that Mendy has cost the Premier League club £52 million (Dh249m), which combined with the arrivals of Kyle Walker from Tottenham Hotspur and Danilo from Real Madrid, has taken City's spending on full-backs to over £130m.

“I am absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester City,” Mendy told City's official website. “They are one of Europe’s leading clubs and in Pep Guardiola they have a manager committed to playing attacking football.

“I am sure that over the next few years we will be successful.”

Mendy helped Monaco win the Ligue 1 title for the first time in 17 years last season, while reaching the semi-finals of the Uefa Champions League.

He began his career with Le Havre, making more than 50 appearances before joining Marseille in 2013. After 101 appearances for the south coast side, Mendy joined Monaco last summer.

“Benjamin has all the qualities we are looking for in a full-back. For such a young player, he has a wealth of top-level experience," City’s Director of Football Txiki Begiristain said.

“He is undoubtedly one of the world’s best full-backs, our number one target in this position. We are all delighted to have him here at Manchester City.

“I’m sure he will prove a fantastic addition to the squad.”

Mendy will fill the vacancy left by Aleksandr Kolarov after the Serbian full-back left for Italian side Roma.
