Al Hilal's Jang Hyun-soo can't wait to take on Liverpool and Virgil van Dijk at Club World Cup
Saudi Arabian club booked their place in Fifa tournament after win over Urawa Red Diamonds in ACL final
With an historic Asian Champions League title in the bag, Al Hilal defender Jang Hyun-soo is now targeting a showdown with Liverpool counterpart Virgil van Dijk at next month’s Fifa Club World Cup.
Hilal booked their place at the tournament in Qatar by defeating Urawa Red Diamonds 2-0 in Tokyo on Sunday in the second leg of the final to take the coveted crown 3-0 on aggregate.
It ended the Saudi Arabia club’s 19-year wait for the trophy. It was their first success since the competition was rebranded in 2002.
Hilal will now hope to make their mark at the Club World Cup, where they take on African champions Esperance de Tunis in the second-round tie on December 14.
Should they emerge victorious, they then meet recently crowned Copa Libertadores champions Flamengo in the semi-final before perhaps a showpiece clash with Liverpool on December 21. The European champions enter the competition at the semi-final stage.
“The Fifa Club World Cup will be a terrific experience,” South Korean Jang told the Asian Football Confederation’s official website. “It will be difficult, but we will play hard in all our games, I can guarantee you that. I can’t wait to play against Van Dijk.”
Al Hilal currently lead the Saudi Pro League on goal difference from both champions Al Nassr and Al Ahli, although they have played in game less because of their Asian campaign.
