Dubai Exiles ladies are confident of a strong performance at the Dubai Rugby Sevens in December as they introduced an inexperienced squad to the sport over the weekend. The hosts of the season-opening women's tournament at The Sevens on Friday, the Exiles finished seventh of eight in the event but player Dee Fraser said the essential ingredients are there for a successful Dubai Rugby Sevens showing.

"We beat Doha Trojans 41-0 in our play-off," said Fraser. "That result was encouraging. It showed we are capable of scoring tries and we have the raw speed that you need for sevens. What we were lacking was the tactical ability, but we will get a few more tournaments under our belts and we are confident of having a strong squad. "For some of them, it was their first introduction to competitive rugby. But those girls were scoring tries and have good pace, so we are happy to build on those foundations."

Abu Dhabi Harlequins won the event. @Email:stregoning@thenational.ae
