SPAIN
Lucas Alcaraz, the new Granada manager, enjoyed a dream first game in charge as his side pulled off a shock victory over Real Madrid at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored the first own goal of his career to send Real Madrid to a shock 1-0 defeat at lowly Granada in La Liga on Saturday, further damaging their already slim hopes of retaining the title.
Ronaldo has scored 21 league goals this season but headed into his own net at a corner in the 22nd minute and his side rarely threatened after that in the face of resolute opposition.
The result left the champions 15 points adrift of leaders Barcelona, who can extend their advantage over their great rivals to 18 with a win at Valencia on Sunday.
Real have 43 points from 22 games and remain four points behind second-placed Atletico Madrid, who host Real Betis on Sunday.
"We played a bad game, the responsibility is mine," Jose Mourinho, the Real Madrid coach, said afterwards.
"The result bothers me. The first half was horrible, and although we improved in the second half, it wasn't enough.
"Granada defended with heart and soul, and a lot of motivation, and it was a great night of football for them."
Emiliano Armenteros' second-half strike was enough to move Osasuna out of the relegation zone as they leapfrogged Celta Vigo with a 1-0 win at the Reyno de Navarra.
The hosts controlled a first period that was disturbed by a fierce wind in Pamplona and could easily have been in front before the break as Armenteros saw a header come back off the crossbar and Alvaro Cejudo was twice denied by good saves from Javi Varas.
However, the goal did arrive just 10 minutes after the break as Lolo cushioned a header into the Argentine's path and he rifled the ball low past Varas.
Getafe registered their first win in 10 games as they came from a goal and a man down inside 11 minutes to beat Deportivo la Coruna 3-1.
Miguel Angel Moya was sent off for bringing down Riki inside the area early on and Pizzi converted the resulting penalty to give the visitors the perfect start.
However, the hosts were level at the break as Diego Castro also scored from the spot after Ze Castro had upended Abdel Barrada, and when Depor's Abel Aguilar was sent off for a second bookable offence with 20 minutes to go, Luis Garcia's men took full advantage with two goals in two minutes from Alvaro Vasquez and Adrian Colunga.
Espanyol continued their climb away from the relegation zone with a deserved 3-2 home win over Levante.
Two goals in as many second-half minutes from Christian Stuani and Sergio Garcia effectively secured a win that was made to look more nervy after a late Obafemi Martins strike.
Espanyol dominated the opening period but relied on Vicente Iborra's own goal to hold a 1-0 half-time lead they relinquished almost immediately after the break to Ruben's clever header.
The hosts have lost just once in nine games under new boss Javier Aguirre, and they showed why they are on the rise as Stuani and Sergio Garcia combined to score the quick-fire double which proved decisive.
PORTUGAL
A Jackson Martinez hat-trick helped Porto claim a resounding 4-0 win at Guimaraes and open up a three-point lead at the top of the Portuguese Liga.
Porto are unbeaten so far this season and Eliaquim Mangala set them on their way to defending that record with his 15th-minute goal.
Martinez then took centre stage for the visitors, with the Colombian forward on target after 37, 56 and 73 minutes in a one-sided match.
Sporting Lisbon's miserable campaign continued with a 2-1 defeat at Rio Ave.
Things were looking up for the visitors when they went ahead after seven minutes through Jeffren, but a Joaozinho own goal levelled the scores at the interval before Andre Ukra scored the decisive strike 18 minutes from time.
Rio Ave consolidate fifth spot in the table and now hold a six-point advantage over their ninth-placed opponents.
ITALY
Napoli moved alongside Juventus at the top of the Serie A table with a routine 2-0 win over Catania.
The damage was done before half-time, with Marek Hamsik opening the scoring after 31 minutes and Paolo Cannavaro adding another 13 minutes later.
Napoli are unbeaten in seven league matches and are now level on 49 points with Juve, who travel to Chievo today.
Catania remain seventh and with two points to make up on the European places.
Torino stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches but did little to set pulses racing in a goalless draw with Sampdoria.
The hosts impressed in a 2-2 draw at Inter Milan last time out but little of that fight was on display here, as they were cancelled out by a Samp side also on a high following last week's 6-0 win over Pescara.
Meanwhile Roma have sacked coach Zdenek Zeman following their poor run of form, culminating in a 4-2 defeat to Cagliari on Friday night.
Aurelio Andreazzoli has been appointed interim coach."We faced a difficult situation but addressed it in a responsible and strategic way," said Italo Zanzi, the Roma chief executive.
"Aurelio Andreazzoli is a true football professional and has a strong track record with AS Roma. He knows the value of our players and has their respect.
"We believe in our team and will continue to fight for every point this season".
HOLLAND
PSV Eindhoven underlined their superiority at the top of the Eredivisie as they thrashed ADO Den Haag 7-0 to move four points clear.
With FC Twente not in action until tonight when they face FC Utrecht, PSV kept the limelight all to themselves with a sumptuous display against one of their favourite opponents.
Six of the goals came in the second half, with Georgino Wijnaldum's ninth minute goal barely a warning of what was to come.
The second did not come until just before the hour mark, and it was gift-wrapped as Christian Supusepa turned Jeremain Lens' cross into his own net.
The fireworks started soon after with two goals in three minutes from Dries Mertens and Lens making it 4-0 by the 66th minute, the first a fine curling free kick from Lens.
They then piled it on in the final 10 minutes. Jurgen Locadia, on as a substitute, got the fifth in the 80th minute, before Mertens and Wijnaldum each got their second of the evening.
With most of the rest of the leading pack not in action, it was towards the other end of the table where there was the most movement.
A 90th minute own goal saw Roda JC edge their way out of the bottom three with a 3-3 home draw against Heracles Almelo, having come back from 3-1 down after giving up an early lead.
Sanharib Malki put them in front after just 27 seconds, but Marko Vejinovic levelled after quarter of an hour and Ninos Gouriye then had the visitors in front four minutes before the break.
Just seconds into the second half Dario Vujicevic slipped the ball through the goalkeeper's legs for his first goal since April 2011 and Heracles were cruising at 3-1.
But Danilo Pereira's 57th minute strike got Roda back in it before they snatched a last-gasp point thanks to Dorda's mistake.
They move above PEC Zwolle, who went down 3-0 at NAC Breda - having played 50 minutes with 10 men as NAC pulled themselves away from immediate danger.
Anthony Lurling was the star of the show, winning a penalty and setting up the other two goals.
It was all square until five minutes before half-time, when Lurling rounded visiting goalkeeper Diederik Boer but then saw his shot blocked on the line by Joost Broerse.
The defender saw red before Jordy Buijs rifled home the penalty.
Lurling then cracked a shot against the crossbar moments in the second half, but the ball fell for Nemanja Gudelj to sweep it home.
Lurling's work in the build-up to the third goal was more straightforward as he played in Anouar Hadouir to finish in the 68th minute.
FC Groningen likewise pulled clear of trouble with a 1-0 away win over AZ Alkmaar, who also finished with 10 men.
Andraz Kirm got the goal in the 27th minute after capitalising on a mistake by Etienne Reijnen to scoop up the ball.
Jozy Altidore, who spent much of the week in the spotlight after suffering racist abuse during AZ's cup win at FC Den Bosch in midweek, squandered good chances to bring his side level before their chances suffered further damage with the 64th dismissal of Viktor Elm for a tackle from behind.
FRANCE
With none of Ligue 1's leading trio in action on Saturday, all eyes were on the battle for Europe behind them as Bordeaux, Nice and St Etienne all won to remain within a point of each other in the fight for fourth.
Bordeaux ensured they would hang onto fourth on goal difference as they saw off Valenciennes 2-0 with close-range finishes in each half from David Bellion and Ludovic Obraniak.
Nice, who lost to Bordeaux last weekend, are right behind, level on 38 points, having won 2-0 away to Brest.
Nemanja Pejcinovic put them ahead after 13 minutes, slamming home after Brest failed to deal with Xavier Pentecote's corner, and they doubled their advantage only seconds into the second half when Brahim Ferradj put through his own net.
St Etienne, one point behind in sixth, were grateful to the crossbar for preserving their 2-1 away win over relegation-battling Sochaux.
Sloan Privat's injury-time header came back off the bar as St Etienne hung on for a victory that would have been assured had Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang not missed an 81st-minute penalty.
Aubameyang had put the visitors in front with a powerful volley into the top corner after 22 minutes, but they missed chances to add to their lead before Edouard Butin levelled in the 71st minute.
Parity lasted only five minutes before Fabien Lemoine's powerful shot picked up a deflection on its way to goal, but Aubameyang's penalty miss left St Etienne hanging on.
That saw St Etienne move above Rennes on goal difference, who needed a last-minute goal from substitute Axel Ngando, only on the pitch for a matter of seconds, to take a 2-2 draw away to Lorient.
Jeremie Aliadiere had put Lorient in front 10 minutes from time after Mevlut Erdinc cancelled out Yann Jouffre's opener, but just when Lorient looked poised to climb above Rennes in the table, Ngando scored with his first touch, slipping the ball through the goalkeeper's legs.
Lille slipped further off the pace as they were held to a 1-1 home draw by relegation-battling Troyes, needing Divock Origi's 74th-minute strike to cancel out Fabien Camus' first-half opener.
The result leaves them seven points off fourth down in 10th place.
Bastia and Evian played out a goalless draw.
GERMANY
Bayern Munich continued their seemingly unstoppable march towards the Bundesliga title with a convincing 3-0 win at Mainz.
A goal from Thomas Muller and a Mario Mandzukic brace earned the visitors the victory to extend their advantage at the top of the table to 14 points over Bayer Leverkusen, who face Borussia Dortmund today.
Srdjan Lakic marked his Eintracht Frankfurt debut with two goals to inspire Armin Veh's side to a 2-0 win in Hamburg.
Lakic, who arrived in Frankfurt on loan from Wolfsburg just before the transfer deadline, grabbed a first-half brace as the Eagles extended their advantage over fifth-placed Mainz to six points and denied Hamburg a place in the top six for the first time this season.
Greuther Fürth picked up only their second win of the season with a shock 2-1 victory at Schalke thanks to a last-gasp goal from Nikola Djurdjic.
Michel Bastos marked his Schalke debut with a goal, but Felix Klaus levelled before Djurdjic scored a dramatic late winner for Mike Buskens' men.
Greuther remain at the foot of the table but are just two points behind Augsburg, who were held 1-1 by Wolfsburg.
Jan Moravek earned the visitors a point with a 25th-minute equaliser, two minutes after Naldo had put the Wolves ahead.
Hoffenheim picked up their first win under new coach Marco Kurz with a 2-1 result over Freiburg.

Fortuna Düsseldorf secured a 3-1 win over Stuttgart, who have now lost four Bundesliga games in a row.
Robbie Kruse put Düsseldorf in control of the game with a brace before Christian Gentner brought Stuttgart back into the running.
Oliver Fink then sealed victory for Fortuna, who edge up to within a point of their mid-table opponents.
