Kevin Pietersen has not been included in England's squad for the forthcoming tour of India after team management admitted there remained unresolved issues with the player.
England drop Pietersen for India test series as Compton and Root handed chance
Kevin Pietersen has been left out of England's Test squad for the tour of India after talks with team management broke down.
Two uncapped batsmen, Somerset's Nick Compton and Yorkshire's Joe Root, have won places in the 16-manpool, which leaves for India next month.
But Pietersen will not be included after England cricket managing director Hugh Morris confirmed there were still outstanding issues over the controversial text messages sent by the 32-year-old which have left him exiled from the side.
"Both ECB and England team management have had meetings with Kevin Pietersen to address the issues which led to his omission from the final Test match against South Africa," he said.
"These discussions remain private and confidential and as there are issues still to be resolved Kevin has not been considered for selection for the India tour."
Pietersen's omission opens the way for Compton, the 29-year-old grandson of Denis, who was the top English batsman in the county championship last season with an average of 99.
Root, 21, opened the batting for Yorkshire averaging 43.41 and could fill the gap left by the retirement of Andrew Strauss.
Spinners Monty Panesar and Samit Patel are both included in the touring party, alongside Eoin Morgan, but Ravi Bopara and James Taylor have been omitted.
National selector Geoff Miller backed the debutant players after their strong performances at county level this year.
"Nick Compton has performed well consistently for Somerset in County cricket this season, made big hundreds and shown that he has the temperament and the technique to play at a higher level," he said.
"Joe Root is a player who has been successful at every level from county cricket through to EPP and England Lions, and he deserves this opportunity to step up to the next level and press his case for a place in the Test side."
England will play three warm-up games before the first Test of the four match series in Ahmedabad in November 15, followed by matches in Mumbai, Kolkata and Nagpur.
