Dunne: It's United's day

The fourth-minute tackle by Nemanja Vidic may have given Aston Villa the lead but, on another day, it could so easily have led to Manchester United being reduced to ten men. The Serbian escaped any additional punishment when he brought down Gabriel Agbonlahor in the box. Richard Dunne, the Villa defender, said it was "possibly" a red card offence, but he was not convinced that would have helped his side go on to win. "They had a man sent off at Villa Park and it didn't make a difference," he said, referring to the 1-1 draw earlier this month when Nani was dismissed.

"It's better to play against 11 men and it made it a better game. "But it was an even game. Rooney has had a really good season. Another goal and it's their day unfortunately." Brad Friedel, the American goalkeeper, added: "It's two great headers, one against the post. He's a world-class player." sports@thenational.ae
