Jack Hobbs gave Godolphin a second winner on the night and in the process foiled Postponed’s bid to become the first horse to win the back-to-back Dubai Sheema Classic titles.
Ridden confidently by William Buick, the English Derby runner-up and winner of the Irish version, was impressive in scooping up the US$6 million (Dh22m) Group 1 prize over 2,410 metres on the turf at the Meydan racecourse.
Highland Reel under Ryan Moore set the early pace and Andrea Atzeni had Postponed tucked behind in second with Jack Hobbs in third. This order remained until they got on to the home stretch.
Atzeni pushed the button but the winner of the race 12 months ago remained one-paced while Buick bid time, and when he did, Jack Hobbs powered through to victory with Seventh Heaven coming in second ahead of Postponed.
