Doctorates in sports research available for UAE residents
A university in the UK plans to offer a sports research degree programme created specifically for UAE residents.
The FIA, the worldwide governing body of motor sports, signed off on a partnership between the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE) and the University of Ulster, whose campus is in Northern Ireland, this week.
Students will be able to write a dissertation with the supervision of a locally based academic. A 20,000-word dissertation, in English, will be required for a master's degree from the university; a doctorate will require a dissertation of 100,000 words.
The degree will be granted by the University of Ulster's Sport and Exercise Sciences Research Institute.
Sean O'Connor, director of ATCUAE, said: "This provides access to postgraduate degrees and other opportunities for those in the UAE who have proven experience in this area of sports.
"It will be very rigorous, but will also offer new methods outside of the classroom in comparing new theories with existing published work about the sport. There is not quite anything like this in the world."
