Derbyshire makes Greek switch
Matt Derbyshire has completed his switch to the Greek champions Olympiakos from the English Premier League club Blackburn Rovers. The former England Under 21 international enjoyed a successful loan spell in Greece during the second half of last season, netting eight goals to help the club to a domestic league and cup double. Unable to call upon the services of Derbyshire and injuries to several other of the club's strikers forced the Rovers manager Sam Allardyce to use towering centre back Christopher Samba as an emergency striker for the final few games of the season as the Lancashire club battled to ensure their safety in England's top flight. However, Allardyce and the club have now allowed another striker to leave Ewood Park, sanctioning Derbyshire's £3 million (Dh18.1m) move just days after seeing fellow striker Roque Santa Cruz join rivals Manchester City.
