Veteran UAE cricketer Mohammed Tauqir was on Sunday roped in as fielding coach of Deccan Gladiators for the Abu Dhabi T10.

Tauqir represented UAE with distinction as one of the rare Emirati cricketers. He lead the UAE during their historic appearance at the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Tauqir, 47, made his international debut in 2004 and represented the country for 11 years. A prominent name in UAE cricket, Tauqir brings a wealth of experience to the Deccan Gladiators, who will be led by Shane Watson in the tournament that is set for a fresh start in the capital city this week.

Commenting on his appointment, Tauqir said: “I am very happy to be associated with the Deccan Gladiators as their fielding coach. I am sure the team will do very well in the tournament.

"Cricket can be a serious full-time career for youth in this region. Proper grooming and training will help them refine their game as a player. I see that many of local youths are interested in this sport and they should definitely work towards it and represent UAE internationally.”

The Abu Dhabi T10 will be played from November 14-24 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium.
