Riding on a Trent Boult hat-trick New Zealand stretched their winning streak over Pakistan to 12 in the 50 over-a-side format after a 47-run victory in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

The left-arm quick, playing his first international game since March, removed Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam and Mohammed Hafeez in his second over at the Zayed Cricket Stadium to leave Pakistan reeling on 8-3.

Sarfraz Ahmed (64) and Imad Wasim (50) staged a fightback with a 103-run stand for the seventh wicket to recover from 85-6 but that was as close Pakistan got as they were shot out for 219 in their 47.2 overs.

Earlier New Zealand put up 266-9 and now take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Ross Taylor (80) and Tom Latham (68) shared a 130-run stand for the third wicket and useful contributions from the lower order from Ish Sodhi (24 off 19) and Tim Southee (20 off 21) helped New Zealand post a challenging total.

Shadab Khan triggered a dramatic collapse of the New Zealand batting by taking three wickets in four balls and left-arm spinner Imad removed Taylor, as the visitors sllumped from 208-3 to 210-7 in the space of seven balls.
