Rajasthan Royals got their first points in the Indian Premier League when they defeated Delhi Daredevils by 10 runs on the Duckworth/Lewis Method in a rain-reduced match on Wednesday.

Delhi, chasing a revised target of 71 runs in six overs, were restricted to 60-4 by some quality seam bowling by Rajasthan bowlers with Ben Laughlin (2-20) picking up the key wicket of Glenn Maxwell (17) in the fourth over.

Earlier, after being put into bat, Rajasthan were 153-5 in 17.5 overs when rain stopped play for more than two hours before Delhi's target was revised on the D/L Method.

Rajasthan's multi-million dollar signings, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler, again failed with the bat and their third overseas player D'Arcy Short of Australia was run out for the second successive game.

Stokes (16) was undone by Trent Boult's sharp delivery that shaped away enough to get the outside edge of the England allrounder and Buttler (29) was clean bowled by Mohammad Shami just before the rain came.

Captain Ajinkya Rahane top scored with 45 off 40 deliveries while Sanju Samson made 37 before both fell to left-arm spin of Shahbaz Nadeem (2-34).

Delhi lost their first match against Kings XI Punjab and will take on Mumbai Indians in their next game on Saturday.

Rajasthan, coming back into the IPL after two years of suspension due to spot-fixing, lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in their comeback match and will meet Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday.

Chennai Super Kings lose home advantage

The IPL has decided to move the remaining six home matches of Chennai Super Kings to Pune because of protests in the city over a water issue.

Protests have been ongoing in Chennai over the Cauvery river water issue between the states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

"Because of the volatile situation we have been apprised that it is better to reschedule the games," said Kasi Viswanathan, Super Kings chief executive after his meeting with city police commissioner on Wednesday.

Chennai played their first home game against Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday since returning to the IPL this year after a two-year ban for corruption.

Police took away some spectators from the stadium, who threw shoes close to the Chennai players at the boundary. Chennai won the match by five wickets.

The new "home" venue is not new to captain MS Dhoni as he played for Rising Pune Supergiant in the IPL for the last two seasons.

Sodhi signs for Royals

Rajasthan bought New Zealand's legspinner Ish Sodhi at his base price of US$77,000 (Dh908,000) as a replacement for injured Zahir Khan of Afghanistan.

This year Sodhi recorded second best figures in the Big Bash when he took 6-11 for Adelaide Strikers after replacing Chris Jordan of England toward the end of Australia's premier Twenty20 league season.

Sodhi, who will be playing in the IPL for the first time, was part of New Zealand's T20 squad that played the World Twenty20 in India in 2016. He also toured India with the national team for the ODI series in September last year.

Sodhi has 102 wickets in 92 T20s with an average of 23.09 and has a good economy rate of 7.66.

Willey replaces injured Jadhav

England's David Willey has signed up with Chennai Super Kings after Kedar Jadhav was ruled out of the IPL due to hamstring injury.

Jadhav batted with a torn hamstring and carried Chennai to a memorable one-wicket victory against defending champions Mumbai Indians in the opening match last Saturday.

Chennai next plays against Kings XI Punjab at Mohali on April 15.
