Fifa Club World Cup: River Plate and Kashima Antlers touch down in Abu Dhabi - in pictures

Asian and South American champions land in the capital ahead of the tournament, which begins on Wednesday with Al Ain's play-off against Team Wellington

The Fifa Club World Cup UAE 2018 gets underway on Wednesday, and the participating clubs are making their way to Abu Dhabi.

On Tuesday, African champions Esperance de Tunis and Central American champions Guadalajara touched down in the capital, followed the next day by recently-crowned Copa Libertadores winners River Plate and Asian champions Kashima Antlers.

Argentina's River, who defeated arch-rivals Boca Juniors in the relocated and rearranged Copa final on Sunday, arrived in Abu Dhabi early on Wednesday morning, with Kashima landing a few hours later.

Kashima begin their Club World Cup campaign on Saturday against Guadalajara at Al Ain's Hazza bin Zayed Stadium. The winner will advance to the semi-finals and a showdown with Uefa Champions League winners Real Madrid.

River, meanwhile, take their place in the other semi-final and await the winner of Esperance's quarter-final with either Al Ain or Team Wellington.
