Clippers' Blake Griffin drains 47 points to beat Pacers
LOS ANGELES // Los Angeles Clippers rookie forward Blake Griffin continued his sensational campaign with an NBA season-high 47-point burst during a 114-107 win over the Indiana Pacers.
Griffin added 14 rebounds to extend his streak of at least 10 points and 10 rebounds to 27 games, the fourth-longest streak in the last 25 seasons.
"I just wanted to come out and execute, and luckily it felt good right out of the gate," Griffin said. "You can win the so-called big games, but we [have to win games like this]."
The top pick in the 2009 draft, Griffin missed the entire 2009-2010 season with a knee injury but has burst onto the scene with his high-flying dunks and athletic rebounding.
He has been selected to compete in the NBA's slam dunk contest during All-Star Weekend in February and is improving his candidacy to be selected as an All-Star.
Elswhere, Amare Stoudemire scored 41 points but still could not prevent his former side beating his current employers.
Stoudemire left Phoenix for New York in the summer but the Suns were more than a match for the Knicks as they ran out 129-121 winners on the road.
Vince Carter scored 29 points, including the 20,000th of his career, to give Phoenix a third straight win.
Most dramatic finish of the evening came in Atlanta, where Joe Johnson's season-high 36 points included the two vital free throws with 0.6 seconds remaining as the Hawks beat the Sacramento Kings 100-98.
Not even 32 points from Dirk Nowitzki could stop the rot for the Dallas Mavericks, who lost 103-89 at the Detroit Pistons.
The Mavericks have now lost six in a row while the Pistons made it three straight victories for the first time this season.
Derrick Rose scored the first triple-double of his career as the Chicago Bulls beat the Memphis Grizzlies 96-84.
Rose, who was a college star at the University of Memphis, scored 22 points, recorded 12 assists and grabbed 10 rebounds on his former stomping ground.
Elsewhere, the Golden State Warriors beat the New Jersey Nets 109-100 and the Houston Rockets saw off the Milwaukee Bucks 93-84.
