Cheick Samb's 28 points not enough to lift Al Ahli over Anibal

Cheick Samb, the Senegalese 7-footer and former NBA player, scored 28 points and took 10 rebounds for Al Ahli, but it was not enough for the host club to fend off the Lebanese side Anibal in the final of the 23rd Dubai International Basketball Tournament Saturday night.

 

DUBAI // Cheick Samb, the Senegalese 7-footer and former NBA player, scored 28 points and took 10 rebounds for Al Ahli, but it was not enough for the host club to fend off the Lebanese side Anibal in the final of the 23rd Dubai International Basketball Tournament tonight.

Ahli was even at 78-78 late in the game, but Anibal outscored them 11-1 in the final minutes to win by an 89-79 final score before a boisterous crowd, which included hundreds of Lebanon fans.

Ghaleb Rida scored 30 points for Anibal, who are based in the city of Zahle.

On Friday, Ahli had defeated the Lebanese club Sagesse in the semi-final, while Anibal, who are third in the top division of the Lebanon basketball league, ousted the defending champions, the Ittihad club of Alexandria, Egypt, in a 75-74 game.
