Cesaro and Sheamus are looking to regain the Raw tag team championship belts on Sunday at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando, Florida. They go up against champions Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, and another tag team, Enzo Amore and Big Cass in a triple threat ladder match. Ahead of the match, Cesaro and Sheamus spoke to The National about their expectations, match history with ladders and in the case of Sheamus, the anguish of wanting the football team he supports, Liverpool, to end their wait for a league title.

Cesaro on his expectations for the ladder match

“It is WrestleMania so no matter what you want do your best, but this is for the tag team championships and it is a ladder match and people always remember ladder matches.”

Sheamus on his past experiences of ladder matches

“I have had success, yes. Money in the Bank [in 2015], TLC for the WWE World Heavyweight championship [also in 2015, against Roman Reigns] and I am sure there are few more in there. I have lost a few too. My first one was against John Morrison at a TLC in a No 1 contenders match. I tore my shoulder in a Money in the Bank match in 2013 when I went sailing off the top rope and through a ladder on the floor and tore up my shoulder and messed up my leg. And I think at the same Money in the Bank match I almost impaled myself so I think you have to be careful around these things, but it is a lot of fun for people to watch and it is an exciting match for WrestleMania.”

Cesaro on how the pair have enjoyed life as a tag team since September

“We are driven by success. When [Mick] Foley [the then Raw General Manager] made us a tag team we thought we may as well make the best of it and go for the championship. If I am going to have to be around him all the time it may as well pay off.”

Sheamus on why he thinks adding the ladder stipulation late to the match is a good thing

“I think it is better. It keeps the buzz going. If you announced it a month out sometimes it is very hard, especially these days, to keep the buzz going, so I think it is better this way. Last minute stipulations, the week of the event, definitely help the match and adds more excitement.”

Sheamus on his frustrations as a Liverpool supporter

“I don’t know what to say about Liverpool anymore. I love them. I have loved them since I was a kid. Ever since 1990 it always seems to be that we’re doing well, not doing well, but is not quite enough and it doesn’t seem to matter who the manager is. It just felt like we so close with Brendan Rodgers [in 2014] and the next year was an absolute disaster. I’m hoping Jurgen Klopp can pull a top four, but I don’t even know if that is a good idea. Do we want to go back in the Champions League? Will it help us get the players we want or is it going to be a distraction? Liverpool fans want to win the Premier league. That is the most important thing and we have not won it in 27 years.”

WrestleMania 33 is available on the WWE Network and on OSN and starts at 3am UAE time on Monday morning, with the pre-show beginning at 1am.
