The Pittsburgh Penguins held off the visiting Montreal Canadiens 5-4 to give new coach Dan Bylsma the first NHL victory of his career. Bylsma, who replaced Michel Therrien, who was sacked on Sunday, saw Sergei Gonchar score the winning goal 7:18 into the third period. Evgeni Malkin, Petr Sykora, Miroslav Satan and Maxime Talbot were also on target. Meanwhile, in other action, the Philadelphia Flyers enjoyed their third successive victory as they defeated the Buffalo Sabres 6-3, while the Chicago Blackhawks trounced the Florida Panthers 4-0, and the Dallas Stars got the better of the Edmonton Oilers 4-2.
