British School trio drive and putt their way to success

The youngsters win the first Abu Dhabi Inter-Club and Schools Junior League despite being a player short.

The British School Al Khubairat won the first Abu Dhabi Inter-Club and Schools Junior League at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club yesterday despite being a player short.

The format for the tournament was a stableford points competition with the three top-scorers from the four-strong teams counting towards the points.

BSAK scored a total of 53 points. Their team was made up of Ronan and Darren Hall and Jonny McLeod, who was the day's top-scorer with 20 stableford points.

Ronan, the elder of the Hall siblings, also won the nearest to the pin prize with a shot on the 17th hole.

The junior league is an initiative designed to develop the game among young Emirati and expatriate players through competitive matches between the clubs and schools, said Paul Booth, the director of club operations at the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club.

All six Abu Dhabi golf clubs and a host of Abu Dhabi schools were invited to enter the league that will see an event at each of the clubs throughout the season, with the final taking place at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club on May 21.

The points total over the six events will determine the league champions. The next round will be at the Abu Dhabi City Club on January 23 followed by competitions at Al Ghazal Golf Club on February 22, Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club on March 14 and Yas Links on April 10 before May's final.
