Saracens say Brendan Venter will stand down as the Premiership club's director of rugby at the start of next year and will return to South Africa for family reasons. However, Saracens have named the former Springboks centre as their technical director, a newly-created position that will involve him flying back to Britain on a regular basis. Mark McCall, the club's first-team coach, takes over Venter's former role.

Giteau to lead the Barbarians

Meanwhile, Australia's Matt Giteau will captain the Barbarians from fly-half against South Africa in the rugby union world champion's final tour match at Twickenham on Saturday. Giteau has already played twice for the invitational side, including a try-scoring appearance at fly-half in the 22-5 win over the Springboks in 2007. Giteau is one of six Australians in a strong Barbarians starting line-up, which also features five All Blacks.
