Bath to face league-champions Leicester in play-offs
Bath booked their place in the Guinness Premiership play-offs with a 39-3 victory over Leeds last night. First-half tries by Nick Abendanon and Michael Claassens sent Bath on their way to an 11th victory in 12 league games since Christmas and set up a play-off clash with league champions Leicester at Welford Road next Sunday. Leicester lost their last league game of the season to third-placed Saracens 32-23.
Saracens will travel to Northampton in the play-offs, after ending their league campaign with a 31-7 victory at London Irish. Meanwhile in the Super 14, the ACT Brumbies gave Wallaby great George Smith a fitting home farewell and kept alive their play-off chances with a 31-3 bonus-point victory over the Otago Highlanders. The two-time champions scored four tries to claim maximum points.
The Brumbies will have to beat seven-time champions Canterbury Crusaders in Christchurch on Friday to claim their first play-off spot since 2004. * Compiled by Graham Caygill
