Barcelona-bound Affelay says bye to PSV
Ibrahim Afellay began life as a Barcelona player yesterday after his move from PSV Eindhoven, following in a long line of Dutchman - from Johan Cruyff to Edgar Davids - to have played for the Spanish club.
The Dutchman arrived at the Camp Nou on Thursday to complete his move from PSV, and was immediately struck by the size of the step up he is about to take.
"It's very special to be here, I'm very happy," he said. "I'm a little nervous, but that's OK. I'm at the best club in the world, an awesome club, and I'm enjoying the moment."
The 24-year-old midfielder, who came through the ranks at PSV, added: "I still have not fully realised everything I have got here. I just arrived, it's my first day in town, and I think it may take a while to sink in.
"This is a big dream. All players want to play for Barca. Any player will tell the world he wants to play here, where we practice the best football in the world."
Elsewhere, Ajax reached the quarter-finals of the Dutch Cup on Thursday night with a narrow 1-0 home win over AZ Alkmaar.
The Amsterdammers are currently under the stewardship of caretaker boss Frank De Boer following Martin Jol's recent exit.
