DUBAI // Pro League side Al Wasl have confirmed a bid to sign Didier Drogba - but admit they expect to lose out on the European Cup final goal heros to China.

The 34-year-old striker left Chelsea at the end of the season, having scored the penalty which won the Premier League side the Champions League trophy.

Al Wasl chairman Marwan bin Bayat confirmed an offer had been made to the Ivory Coast forward, but admitted that the deal was less what has been offered from a team in China.

Drogba has been linked with a move to Shanghai Shenhua, where he would link up with fellow former Chelsea player Nicolas Anelka.

Bin Bayat said the club was "definitely serious" about Drogba, but that the Ivorian forward "seems more interested in China."
