ABU DHABI // Balazs Dzsudzsak, the Hungary captain, is set to move to Al Wahda after the Arabian Gulf League club agreed a €3 million (Dh12.2m) deal with Turkish club Bursaspor.
“We have completed talks with both the player and the Turkish club on all details of the transfer,” Wahda announced in a statement on Sunday.
“This agreement is initial in principle and will become final once the player passes the medical.
“Balazs was one of the options for coach Javier Aguirre and will add quality to our squad upon completion of his signing.

“He is a European and global superstar who has considerable experience and who has been involved with his country’s Euro 2016 campaign in France during which he demonstrated world class performances.”
Dzsudzsak, 29, was linked with Wahda before the club turned their interest to Brazilian Tiago Alves, 23, but the move collapsed after the player decided to sign for Saudi club Al Hilal.
Wahda were also interested in Al Ahli’s Brazilian forward Ciel, but he returned to Ceara in Brazil last month.
Dzsudzsak, if successful with the medical, will replace Denilson, who has signed for Brazilian side Cruzeiro, in Wahda’s foreign quartet that also includes Chile international Jorge Valdivia, Korean Rim Chang-woo, and Argentine Sebastian Tagliabue, the league’s top scorer and Foreign Player of the Year last season.
Wahda finished third in the league to clinch a place in the 2017 Asian Champions League play-off.
Dzsudzsak began his career at local Hungarian side Debreceni in 2004 before moving to PSV Eindhoven where he spent three seasons and made over 100 appearances for the Dutch club.
From there, Dzsudzsak signed for Anzhi Makhachkala in 2011, but was limited to just eight matches in the half of the season he spent at the Russian side.
A move to Dynamo Moscow followed in January 2012, a spell that proved more productive and one that yielded 13 goals in 89 appearances.
Dzsudzsak excelled at Euro 2016 this summer as Hungary defied expectations to top tough group that included Portugal, Austria, and Iceland. Hungary’s campaign ended in the Round of 16 in a 4-0 defeat to Belgium.
