Rival managers Paulo Bonamigo and Josef Hickersberger both saluted their defences last night as Al Shabab and Al Wahda fought out a goalless draw.
And Bonamigo said gaining a point was a "good enough" result as it kept his side in the hunt for an Asian Champions League spot in fourth, three points behind Al Jazira in third.
"It was a tough game for both teams," the Brazilian said. "We had good ball possession but no real chances.
"The defence on both sides had great games. They didn't make any mistakes and neither did we.
"We won a point and that takes us closer behind Jazira and that's pretty good for us. We can bide our time now and win more points from the games ahead."
Hickersberger, the Wahda coach, had special praise for Mohammed Shaibah, who has taken over the mantle from Basheer Saeed following the centre-backs move to Ahli, while Hamdan Al Kamali was not available as he is still in talks over a move to Lyon in France.
"Our first task was not to allow Shabab to score and we were pretty good at that," Hickersberger said. "I have never seen the defence better than they were tonight. Shaibah was really outstanding and he manned the defence expertly in the absence of two senior players."
Also last night Sharjah went down 2-1 to Al Wasl.
Marcelo Oliveira opened the scoring for Sharjah after seven minutes but Wasl drew level on 16 minutes with a goal from their new Iranian signing Mohammad Reza Khalatbari before Juan Manuel Olivera scored the winner in the 62nd minute.
