"Al Jazira have no connection whatsoever with Beckham's visit to Abu Dhabi," Ali Al Nuaimi, the spokesman of the club, said.

ABU DHABI // Al Jazira have flatly denied any link with David Beckham's visit to Abu Dhabi.

The former England captain was in the capital on Wednesday evening for a magazine launch at Emirates Palace, which was also attended by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, the chairman of Jazira.

But Jazira yesterday dismissed speculation linking Beckham, who is without a club since leaving Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy earlier this month, with a move to the Pro League side.

"Al Jazira have no connection whatsoever with Beckham's visit to Abu Dhabi," Ali Al Nuaimi, the spokesman of the club, said.

"The news that has been doing the rounds are pure speculations.

"We have been inundated with calls from all over the world. Beckham has visited for a private function."

The former England captain had said "We'll see" when asked by The National if he was considering a move to Jazira on Wednesday.

Al Nuaimi, when asked if Beckham had visited Jazira's Mohammed bin Zayed stadium, added: "Neither do we know of his whereabouts nor his plans. We have also no idea if he would visit the club."

Paulo Bonamigo, the Jazira coach, did not pursue the subject when asked about the speculation regarding Beckham, saying he was at a pre-match briefing of a derby match against Al Wahda tomorrow.

"This is not a matter for me to discuss," the Brazilian said. "We are here to speak about our preparation for the city derby and not on any other subject."
