South Africa bowler Dale Steyn reached the milestone of 400 wickets on Thursday during the opening day of the second Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka. Here are some numbers on the 32-year-old bowler’s career.
7 — Wickets in the first innings against India in the first Test in Nagpur, in February 2010. Seven for 51 are his best bowling figures in Test cricket, and Sachin Tendulkar was among the batsmen he dismissed in the innings.
13 — Steyn is the 13th bowler to reach 400 Test wickets in his career. Now on 402, he is only 19 behind the 421 of Shaun Pollock, who holds the record for most Test wickets by a South African.
15 — Times Steyn has dismissed Pakistan batsman Mohammed Hafeez in Test matches, making him the man Steyn has dismissed the most in his Test career.
25 — Five-wicket hauls for Steyn in Test cricket. His first came in 2006 against New Zealand at Centurion, while his most recent came in December last year, again at Centurion, as he took six wickets against the West Indies.
2004 — The year Steyn made his debut for South Africa in the first Test against England in Port Elizabeth, and he has gone on to play 80 times since. It was an inauspicious start as he went for two for 112 at a rate of 4.52 in his first innings bowling. His first wicket came when he bowled Marcus Trescothick.
