Will the new driving rules make our roads safer?

I am glad to hear that the police are getting tough on motorists with heavily tinted windows (Almost 200 Dubai drivers fined for flouting new seat belt law, June 4).

I am wondering if these super cameras can see through tinted windows. I am also curious how cars with heavily tinted windows will get through their yearly checks.

Do the new rules bring an end to speed buffers on our motorways?

Ahmad Johari, Dubai

I am glad that traffic laws are being strictly implemented. Hundreds of lives will be saved if traffic laws are enforced.

These rules need to be implemented across the country. Only then will we benefit from them.

Amr Abu Mohammed, Dubai

I wonder if the no-swerving rule will actually make it virtually impossible to drive down Sheikh Zayed Road as those in the next-to-outside lane will just stay there for fear of moving aside.

Carmen Neary, Dubai

Dozens of drivers hovered close to my rear bumper at speeds of no less than 150kph on a single day.

This is crazy.

Sammie Wai, Dubai

No one uses their indicators. They all jump into the smallest space.

It’s really bad. These people should be given proper driving lessons.

Anna Maria Jazairi, Dubai

Some drivers are scared of the new rules and now are driving too slow on Sheikh Zayed Road. This has created another problem.

May Adam Bachtiar, Dubai

The new law will generate a lot of revenue for the Government of Abu Dhabi, as blocking traffic is typical behaviour here.

It is most annoying when someone decides to get off right in front of a shop but takes forever to actually alight from the car.

Second in rank is when two people stop their cars in the middle of the road and start having a long conversation. I wonder if it’s really feasible to fine all these people in Abu Dhabi. It’s not going to be an easy task.

Does Donald Trump have any doctrine at all?

Does president Trump have any doctrine (Six months into his presidency, what is Donald Trump’s Middle East doctrine?, July 2)?

He has made me and millions of others question whether democracy is really a good thing.

Tanya Milbourne, Dubai

Donald Trump doesn’t seem to have any doctrine in the Middle East or anywhere else. His only doctrine is to do away with anything the previous administration has done.
