Put the nuclear buttons away and come only in peace

In reference to the news Trump cancels Kim summit over North Korea’s hostility (May 25), this is really unfortunate. I was hoping that US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un would come to an agreement and we could sleep all more peacefully.

Alas, this might not be meant to be. For now, we will continue to live under the nuclear sword of Damocles.

The common people of North Korea will agonise under harsh sanctions, including those on food and medicines.

Mr Kim should be more stable and judicious. Leaders have to be predictable and should be trustworthy.

A nation cannot talk peace in the morning and call the vice president of the country it is negotiating with a “dummy” in the evening. Mr Kim should just pick up his phone, dial Mr Trump and press for the meeting on June 12 in Singapore. He should heed the following: blessed are the peacemakers.

Celebrities should adhere to the highest standards

Regarding your story ‘We got you’ - Harvey Weinstein accusers relieved and elated at rape charges Harvey Weinstein charged with rape (May 26), while we are waiting on the outcome of the case, it has been interesting to see the latest development in the Hollywood film industry.

Based on the accusations, the movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has been charged with rape.

He was subject to a lengthy investigation by New York police over the past few months.

Whatever the result of any court case, it will be difficult for his image to recover from all the allegations, despite his awards and achievements.

All celebrities have a responsibility to safeguard their reputation and adhere to the highest standards of behaviour.

In the spirit of Ramadan, let’s help those who help us

Regarding your story Finding kindness across the UAE during Ramadan Dubai (May 26), we are planning to donate iftar to hundreds of RTA taxi drivers on Monday in the spirit of Ramadan.

Any taxi drivers who are near Jumeirah Beach Residence are invited to pass by the Rixos Premium hotel entrance in Dubai and collect their meal from Luigia pizzeria.

This is about more than appreciating taxi drivers. This initiative aims to provide a proper meal to those who, due to their duties supporting the community, aren’t always able to break their fast at iftar time.

It is time for us to thank taxi drivers for the work that they do for all of us, year round.

It only makes sense celebrating Ramadan with those who give so much of themselves for the community.

Our packs include food and drinks and all taxi drivers are welcome to collect one.
