I write in reference to your article Dubai Zen Tower fire: Tenants left angry and in limbo after huge blaze (May 14): in moments such as these, a man should thank God that he and his family are safe. In truth it could have been worse. I hope the tenants are compensated and their documents sorted.

I hope the tenants get help somehow from the building management.

The new catastrophe will create irreversible hatred

I write in reference to your front page splash A new catastrophe (May 15) and ongoing coverage of the US embassy opening in Jerusalem: this is, as far as I'm concerned, the most myopic act of 2018 so far. It is likely to create irreversible hatred between Israel and Palestine, not to mention further ill-will towards Israel from other Arab countries. I can't help asking why this change is being pursued at all? Do Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel and US President Donald Trump think that the entire world bows before their might? I sincerely hope the future brings some peace in that deeply troubled land.

There is already irreversible hatred between the Israelis and Palestinians. That is why the two-state solution is the only solution.

Moongazing makes Muslims of the world unite in faith

Moon sighting marks the beginning and end of Ramadan. A huge effort is required for all Muslims to agree on reintroducing the hijri calendar, which is only used in some primarily Arab countries.

Now Ramadan is just around the corner, the solution, with regards to the date on which the holy month begins, is possibly best found in every Muslim nation following Makkah, the centre towards which all Muslims pray. Alternatively, it would be great if other traditions found in hadith literature were brought to life; here we find that the announcement of the moon sighting can be done by any just, pious and trustworthy Muslim person and thus, this would be the start date of one month of fasting.

But how many Muslims nowadays will sit and watch for the new moon? Most people leave the moon sighting to the authorities, as well as the broadcasting of the announcement.

No doubt following the tradition is the best methodology and also the best way for Muslims to unite.

Animals should be sheltered in this desert heat

With reference to your article Dubai Safari to close on Tuesday for five months of work (May 13) by Nick Webster: I just hope all the animals are safe from this punishing heat. God bless them.
