Dubai ruler an inspiration for the whole world

Readers are all praise for Sheikh Mohammed’s unique leadership. Reem Mohammed / The National

Everyone should be impressed by the inspirational initiatives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid. Many of them are unique not just in this region, but their instances are rare in any other part of the world. The latest one is the Arab Hope Makers Award, in which Sheikh Mohammed honoured all five finalists, instead of one (Arab Hope Maker Awards give hope to unsung heroes, May 19).

The world would have been a different place if every country had visionary leaders like ours. The picture of the Middle East would have been different if it was led by people like him, who could show the people the positive side of things, who could guide the misguided on the path to progress and prosperity by showing them what really matters in life and what doesn’t.

Sheikh Mohammed is absolutely right that without hope we have no chance of restoring our success. Life will throw adversities at us, but we should try to overcome them with our positive attitudes.

Sheikh Mohammed’s vision is unique. Few leaders can think like him. The award ceremony is an example. While honouring unsung Arab heroes was a great decision, what was special about the programme was that all five finalists were honoured. Who could have thought this way other than Sheikh Mohammed? I have high regard for him. He is my ideal leader.

Trump delivers on his promises

Donald Trump's visit to Saudi Arabia is great news not just for this region, but for the United States as well (Donald Trump meets King Salman in Saudi Arabia amid deals worth $380bn, May 20).

Mr Trump has secured a deal that will create and retain hundreds of American jobs.

The Democratic lobby and some Republicans continue to attack him without realising that Mr Trump is doing the work he promised to do – bring back jobs to the United States.

Jessica Smith, US

President Trump’s trip to Saudi Arabia creates a distraction from the controversy he created at home.

I doubt whether this will enable him to steer clear of the spiralling political firestorm over his firing of the FBI chief, James Comey, last week.

Mr Trump will face a formidable challenge when he returns.

Solar energy will hit oil revenues

The oil revenue will be highly affected if people switch to solar energy (Solar panel demand in Dubai dulled by red tape, May 18). I don't think adopting solar energy will be that easy, not just here but in the entire region.

Falah Khalid, India

The adoption of solar power must be encouraged with least resistance.

It’s time to lift the visa ban

I refer to the news report Visa ban against Bangladeshis looking to work in the UAE 'will be lifted very soon' (May 18). Many training centres have been opened across Bangladesh to train would-be migrant workers.

The UAE would need Bangladeshi labour, especially in the mechanical and electrical sectors.

I am happy to know that the visa ban on Bangladeshi workers is going to be lifted.

The country stopped issuing labour visas in 2012.

That affected thousands of people.
