DUBAI // A man and a woman accused of human trafficking have been sentenced to a year in prison for having sex outside of wedlock in the brothel they lived in.

The Misdemeanours Court ordered that JK, 26, and PA, 23, who shared a bed in the brothel and had been involved in an illicit relationship from 2010 until July 2012, should be deported following their jail terms.

They face further charges related to the brothel in Al Muraqqabat and are accused of being part of a Filipino human trafficking gang that kidnapped women after offering them jobs as waitresses via adverts on Facebook.

They and three women JS, 39, ML, 36, and DJ, 24, are on trial at the Criminal Court, where they have denied charges of human trafficking.
