Mexico and Switzerland will go bare toe-to-toe when the sides kick off the Beach Soccer Intercontinetal Cup in Dubai on November 19.

Held at the Dubai International Marine Club, the Intercontinental Cup will feature the hosts UAE and Morocco joining the Mexicans and Swiss in Group A while Group B will be populated by Russia, Brazil, Italy and Iran.

The UAE will take on Morocco in their opening match.

This year’s edition of the Intercontinental Cup will be the third, and see the UAE have a chance to redeem themselves after bowing out of the Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup

in September after losing all thre group play matches.

Russia, winners of the World Cup this year, will have the opportunity to play four-time World Cup champions Brazil after the sides missed out on a meeting this year when Brazil was knocked out by Spain in the semi-finals.

“The push is now towards a solid national squad with an eye on the future. Our team has put in a lot of effort in cancelling out the mistakes of the past and hopefully the home ground advantage should prove to be helpful,” said Dr Ahmed Al Sharif, Sectretary-General of organisers at Dubai Sports Council, who are putting on the tournament.

“As in the past two years, this time too there are quality teams like world champions Russia, Switzerland and former champions Brazil in this competition. I am sure this will be a huge test for our national team to go out there and prove what they are capable of.”

The UAE will face Mexico on the second day of the event and finsh group play with Switzerland on November 21.
